I have a Nikon Monarch 4-16x42 mil-dot mounted on my Sako .260 Remington. It's a FINE scope - I liked the clarity, brightness, low-light performance, and controls much better than the Zeiss I was originally planning to buy for that rifle. No regrets since... it just works, and it works GREAT!

Here is the scope I'm talking about:

Nikon glass is second to none imo. Even the inexpensive prostaff offerings are respectable.

I wouldn't mind getting one of these for my AR.

I put a cheap Nikon 3x9 BDC Buckmaster scope on my 7mm Ultra Mag this year just for deer season.....

i have had no issues with it, it served its purpose well, setup easy dialed in consistantly, took some abuse

it would not be normal to put that type of scope on that type of gun (antelope gun) but this was a temporary thing just for deer season...i had other people wanting to borrow my normal deer rifle

If it can take a 7mm rum ....it should handle your 7mm just fine

All the Nikons are good. The Monarchs even more so. Those are the good ones.

I've got a Nikon Monarch 3.3-10x Mildot on my Tikka Tactical .223. Fine piece of glass.

Now whether a used model is worth $200 or not depends on you and how the friend took care of it. Did he clean the lenses with paper towels or leave marks on the tube when he mounted it, etc? Considering how much a new one would cost.... probably worth it if the glass is still perfect. Don't worry about if the scope is strong enough for a 7mm. It is.

I had a Nikon Monarch with adjustable objective I think 4x16x42...very good eye relief and clarity. Excellent scope and $200 is a good deal. Monarch is one of their better grade scopes.

I had a Nikon Monarch and it was wonderful. It had the BDC reticle, and I quickly became a big fan of the reticle. I personally wouldn't want a scope that large for any of my rifles, but it you are planning on doing some varminting with 7mm, then that might be the scope for you.

True..a 50mm objective is a beast and would place the line of sight higher, but at that price you could re-sell it on ebay for $350. It would be great for targets too.

Nikon scopes better be inferior to my Nightforce and March scopes since both cost several multiples times the Nikon!

For a hunting rifle, you'd be nuts not to jump that deal. Even though I'm covered up in scopes, I'd buy it just on general principles because it's such a good deal.

I guess it depends on what you have and personal preference, but there are many that prefer Nikon to Nightforce offerings.

This particular scope is plenty rugged, and in fact is more rugged than most any of the scopes out there in the same price range. I personally would take this scope over any Leupold, or any Nightforce scope.
To each his own, I think all mentioned are good quality, but Nikon has never let me down. For the price they can't be beat.

I don't have any so I have no reason to doubt that. But there are better, and more expensive scopes.

I've been to many price-is-no-object long distance competitions and note a heavy predominance of Nightforce and Leupold (maybe 65% between the two brands) and 6-8 brands dividing up the remaining 35%.

Below from 6BR.com, perhaps the best high accuracy shooting site anywhere.
